We conducted research for Ofcom – in person and online – with adults in the UK as part of Ofcom’s programme of research to understand consumer engagement issues in communications markets.
The research showed that many people are unsure whether they are still in their minimum contract period, or when their contract ends. So, some customers stay on the same deals for longer than necessary, paying higher prices and potentially missing out on deals that could improve their package or save them money. Ofcom is now consulting on introducing proposed new rules to alert customers when they are approaching the end of their contract period or have been out of their minimum contract for a while.
