EFFECTIVENESS OF FIRST AID APPS AND WEB PAGES

A mixed method study to help the British Red Cross understand how people use phone ‘apps’ or web pages to learn new skills, specifically first aid.

Initial online and telephone survey to provide baseline data prior to respondents being assigned an app/ web page to use. Further interviews were conducted soon after respondents had used the app or web page, and 6 weeks later to see what knowledge respondents retained and any change in confidence.

HOW IS IT USED?

The first aid apps and web pages were effective in enabling our sample to increase their first aid confidence and to learn and retain first aid knowledge.

RESULTS

Overall feedback about the learning tools was very positive. Respondents found them easy to find and navigate around, engaging and useful. Whilst taking the test or quiz scored highly for usefulness, videos were the most preferred way to learn.
